BICA

Course Structure

The BICA course comprises three levels - the Certificate Level, Professional Level and Advanced Level. There are 15 examinations all together - 6 at Certificate Level, 6 at Professional Level and 3 at the Advanced Level.

Certificate Level

The certificate level consists of 6 modules which provide an introduction to the course concepts underpinning accountancy.

The Certificate Level modules are:

  • Business and Finance
  • Management Information
  • Accounting
  • Assurance
  • Principles of Taxation
  • Law

The first 4 certificate levels modules are examined at any time (subject to availability) through 1.5 hours long computer-based assessments that can be sat at BICA-approved test centres. Principles of Taxation and Law are examined twice per year through paper-based exams of 1.5 hours long each and are sat at BICA exam centres. The pass mark for the certificate level modules is 55%.

Professional Level

The Professional Level consists of 6 modules which allow the students to develop and apply their techical knowledge and skills. The Professional Level modules include:

  • Business Strategy
  • Business Planning: Taxation
  • Financial Management
  • Financial Accounting and Reporting
  • Audit and Assurance
  • Tax Compliance

Professional Level Modules are assessed twice a year through paper-based exams of 2.5 to 3 hours long each and are sat at BICA exam centres. The pass mark for the Professional Level modules is 55%.

There are no regulations which stipulate the order in which students must attempt the certificate and the Professional level modules. Accordingly, employees are able to design training programmes according to their business needs, subject to modules offered by learning institutions at a given time of one wishes to study with an educational institution.

Students are allowed a maximum of 4 attempts at each module.

The Certificate and Professional Levels have to be completed first before a student can proceed to the Advanced Level.

Advanced Level

The Advanced Level consists of 2 modules and Case Study. The Advanced Level modules are:

  • Strategic Business Management
  • Corporate Reporting

The 2 Advanced Level modules are assessed twice a year through paper-based exams of 3.5 hours each and are sat at BICA exam centres. Students can take the exams in any order, with the exception of the Case Study. To attempt the case Study, studnets must have begun the final year of their training contract.
